Managing air quality in the western United States is as challenging as the states are diverse. Vast, diverse ecosystems - mountain ranges, deserts, grassy plains, and dense urban areas - face different sorts of challenges to achieve a common goal: to protect public health and the environment from unhealthy levels of air pollution. To achieve that goal, WESTAR focuses on key technical and policy areas for in depth evaluation, providing a forum for the exchange of information, assisting with the formulation of policies and technical tools to assist its members in responding to challenges that may be less important in other parts of the country.
